Want to Really Know if Essential Oils Work? Here Are 7 Words You Should Know.
Gary talked often and extensively about how essential oils work, but many people still question if they really do work. Use the tools he provided to educate yourself about what makes an effective essential oil.
Young Living’s rigorous Seed-to-Seal quality commitment, which Gary developed as he helped Donna Riley and Mary, include the following best practices:
Cultivating Botanicals in the Proper Environment
Balancing the nutrients of the soil in which the botanicals from which the essential oils are derived, watering them just enough, and managing the whole process very carefully ensures that the highest-quality essential oils that support the body’s natural chemistry for health, heightened spiritual awareness, and balance can be produced. We’re all looking for better health and balance, aren’t we?
Soil composition
As Gary said: “The composition of soils in different areas will change the way plants grow in those areas, which will change the oils that come from those plants. The temperature, moisture level, and time and method of harvesting, among other things, will determine the quality, or grade, of an oil and its compound percentages.” Better soil means better oil.
Composting
Through composting, plants release nitrogen, which is critical for the kind of farming practiced at Young Living farms. Most of our farmers combine fruits that fall from trees and over-ripened vegetables, discarded food scraps from our restaurants, clover, and alfalfa to begin the fermentation process. Then they mix that with manure from our goat dairy and liquid worm castings from our six worm houses to make an excellent fertilizer that is nitrogen-rich, providing a unique source of food for the plants.
Good fertilizer means happy plants, which means good oils and happy people.
Weed Control
Weeds can be a farmer’s worst enemy and one of the biggest challenges of growing as conscientiously as possible. This is why it’s important to control the weeds through early cultivation. For you, fewer weeds means more attention to detail and higher-quality oil.
So watch for these terms when looking for the best essential oils, no matter where you’re getting them from, because they’re how you tell if those best practices were followed.
For more information about these tests and the great lengths Young Living goes to to provide the highest quality of essential oils possible, refer to D. Gary Young, The World Leader in Essential Oils by Mary Young.
The educated consumers are the ones who benefit the most from the products they purchase. Keep in mind too that oils work differently for different people.
True or false: Young Living only tests some of its oils using GC/MS. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
